August Wedding – Theme & Colors?
I am getting married at the very end of August and I am having trouble putting together a pallet and theme.
I am really not sure because it’s kinda still "summer" but i don’t think the summer-themed stuff (beach chairs/flip flops) is appropriate but it’s really not "fall" either. So what season would you put it in? What type of favors?
For my colors, I want my bridesmaids to wear Navy. Then I was thinking lighter purple and silver – but then that sounds too "winter" to me!
AHHHHH! HELP!!!!
Not into browns, yellows or greens

I would do navy, bumble bee yellow, and crisp white. Also if you live near water, depending on your guest list maybe have the whole thing on a boat. Like just charter a huge yacht for the evening. Have the ceremony start right after you cast off at around sunset (in nj in late august that would be 7ish, not sure where you are). I would say try for a Friday night at 7-730 Then have the reception on the boat while you cruise around. The Navy, yellow, and white are boaty kind of colors, and a bright yellow is still very summerish, but could also be fall. Do full length bridesmaids dresses and navy tux’s with hellow and navy striped ties. Keep the food light and cocktailish, rather then a dinner (will also cut costs)
you could use a mango color, or coral. (:
I’m having the same problem choosing a pallet and theme. but i guess it depends where you live. if you live like in California or somewhere warm like that you can you for the summer theme. otherwise, a dark blue or navy with a lighter color such as a baby blue which will be a good contrast. For wedding favor depending if you want a more laid back event maybe picture frame, love coaster, candle, candle holder.
As for the colors you chose I think that really goes well together. I think its really up to you and what makes you happy. My friend got married last January and had a Hawaiian theme wedding which was very beautiful and fun.
I don’t think purple and blue go together, unless you do an aqua color…
Here are my suggestions:

Navy and Pink:

I had navy bridesmaid dresses and my groomsmen wore kilts made of blackwatch plaid.
Navy basically goes with everything…what about creams, light greens (think sage) or pale pink? Like you said, beach themes tend to be a bit garish, so going with softer colors might give you the same summer feel, but without the bold, hawaiian thing.
Also, you don’t NEED a theme….I struggled with that as well, and then finally decided that my theme would be: Classy. And it was!!
As for favors, we did something a little different. In lieu of traditional wedding favors, we made a donation to a charity that is near and dear to our hearts. The way we informed the guests was by putting together a photo collage (in a nice white washed wood frame) with a note that said basically the above. Many people commented on our choice and I was happy with how it turned out.
Good luck!
I am having an August wedding too. I had this discussion when I started planning my wedding. I knew I wanted wine as my main color a, but then I thought maybe that’s too fall or winter of a color, since August is considered summer. So I looked around at http://www.projectwedding.com and got ideas. I am using summer accent colors, like hot pink and a splash of green.
So use your Navy as the main color and then add some summery splash to it, like a pink or orange.
Look around here for ideas: http://www.projectwedding.com/photo/browse?tag=blue
A good color for late summer and fall would be marigold, yellow and sage green. Check this site for some summer and fall theme favors that can be personalized.
Navy is great. Let the colors be your theme. Instead of worrying about fall / beach / summer theme, let your colors do the magic.
There are plenty of favors you can get without a theme. Pick something useful that is not tied into a specific theme like:
