How much are wedding cakes in your area?
I know it varies on size and intricate things. But I want something simple, maybe a two or three tier, small, not overwhelming. With 2 or 3 flavors, nothing delicate or too intricate.
Yes I understand it varies on that, along with it being prices by slice or overall maintenance. But a general idea. My mom has yet to call the person we’re thinking about hiring.
I’m in the Boise, Idaho area. No more than 160 people coming, which are a good percentage of kids.

First of all, a two tier cake is definitely not going to be enough for 160 people on its own. A three tier probably wont be enough either. I would, at minimum, go with a 4 tier of 8", 10", 12", and 14" and that will only serve 151. This also does not include an anniversary tier on top.
If you go plain buttercream icing with no decoration except borders and maybe Swiss dots and a couple of simple flavors such as vanilla or chocolate cake and buttercream filling it can start out at about $2.00 a serving. The more elaborate decoration, icing, flavors, details you have the price can go up all the way to $6.00 or more.
A great way to cut costs would be to do the smaller cake like you want and have sheet cakes of the same flavor to serve the guests.
Just remember, before you hire anyone, do a tasting first to make sure you like the product. I hope this helps! Congratulations!
