I would like to some how get into the Bridal Industry. Maybe even just selling wedding dresses for now. What kind of money do they make? Is it a tough industry. Or event planning? Same thing.

Consultants are strictly commission –
Selling wedding gowns is a competitive business -
Event or wedding planning is usually based on a percentage of the brides budget
I was looking into event planning..I changed my mind though…ever seen bridezillas? i know nnot every bride will be like that…but theres some crazy women out there! and money determines on your location…youll have to go to a big city!
Well, it depends on where you work! If you’re interested in going the bridal consultant route at a bridal salon, your going to make considerably less than a wedding/event planner. Depending on which state you reside in, the girls at bridal stores tend to make 10-22,000 a year I’d estimate. Most of their income is based on commision which can be stressful and highly competitive. It does have its perks though, it’s the greatest feeling in the world to help brides find their dream dress
Wedding and event planners make different salaries based on how much experience and education they have, and how many weddings/events they do a year. We generally charge a percentage of the budget (5-15%) or charge a per hour rate (most planners charge 35-75 an hour). Most planners also have different packages offering different levels of service and fees to brides. It’s an amazing job but its tough for the first two years, you hardly make anything at all. Overall, most planners make 35,000-50,000 a year..some make more.
Hope this helps! If you’d like more information the event industry check out http://www.ises.com, http://www.bridalassn.com, http://www.weddingsbeautiful.com and http://www.specialevents.com.
Being a bridal consultant at David’s bridal is not the same as being an event planner. David’s bridal is a commission based job selling stuff to brides that they may or may not need but you convince them that they can’t live without. A wedding planner is very different. Despite another readers post, it is not based on the brides budget. If you get a planner that operates that way or on a percentage of the vendors, run the other way. A wedding planner does not make the decisions for the bride, they help fulfill her dreams by using vendors in their price range, stretching the budget for all necessities and dealing with all the problems and averting any that could arise They are able to do this because of experience. It is a job dealing with problems, emotions, and disasters and being able to keep a cool head and a smile on your face. A lot of people think it is like the named planners on TV that come in and plan all of it. It isn’t. Most of us don’t work with a 100 K budget for a wedding. The average is $26 K for the whole wedding and honeymoon. I think most are under 10K. Is it a tough industry? Yes. You have to make a name for yourself. You have to find a niche that no one else has tapped into. As far as $$ to be made, most of us are self employed. You have to work hard, plan to give up your weekends a year in advance, and be on call 24/7. But at the end of it all and you have helped another bride get down the aisle and she is happy, it is worth it. It is never the same thing twice. I could do 100 weddings at the same place and they would all be different.
The Davids Bridal near me pays $12 /hour + Commission.
