My wedding is not for another year, but I would just like an idea of how much should be spent on each on my groomsmen and bridesmaids. they are all doing alot for this wedding so i want to show them im very appreciative. i want to give them something above average, but i dont know what average is to begin with…. so what is the average value of a bridal party gift?? so i know where to work from there.

My MOH is from out of town. She said she is going to fly out here and throw me a bridal shower, since all of my bridesmaids and friends are in a 4 hours radius of where I live and it’s easier that way. I’m really excited!

She has asked me to pick out a place where I would like to have the shower, and if I will help her with games and invitations and everything.

I don’t know if it’s because she doesn’t know any of the other bridesmaids or if they are just unwilling to help. I don’t know if the bridesmaids even know about it.

I don’t *really* have a problem with doing this, but does that seem kind of weird? Am I breaking any serious etiquette rules by helping? What should I do?
she is my ex-stepsister. so not really my immediate family.

I am getting married at the very end of August and I am having trouble putting together a pallet and theme.

I am really not sure because it’s kinda still "summer" but i don’t think the summer-themed stuff (beach chairs/flip flops) is appropriate but it’s really not "fall" either. So what season would you put it in? What type of favors?

For my colors, I want my bridesmaids to wear Navy. Then I was thinking lighter purple and silver - but then that sounds too "winter" to me!

I’ve been looking online at Bridal Shower invitations to get ideas (I’m making my own). I was looking at the wording of the invites and almost all of them said at the bottom:

Hosted by the Bridesmaids

or

Hosted by Amanda Smith and Jane Doe

or something similar. Is that only done when there is more than one hostess? If i’m hosting by myself do I put "Hosted by Katie"?

I am going broke being in my sisters wedding trying to plan the bridal shower, paying for my dress and a bachelorette party! is it normal for the bridesmaids to split the cost of everything?

Well, I’m planning on using David’s Bridal, but creating my own dresses. They have an option like that. You can add sashes there. No link for those dresses, but these are similar.

Also, my flowers will be white, peach/pink, ivory roses. I’m using other colors too.

Okay, so I am planning a black and white/creamish wedding for November 2009. I will be wearing a white/creamish colored dress and my bridesmaids will be wearing black. This question must have been asked countless times before, but here we go… It’s going to be an evening wedding at a seaside city (not a beach wedding though!).

Technically it counts as a destination wedding because a lot of guests will have to travel, but whatever we do there is no avoiding this. We have family and friends in 3 different continents and we are an international couple.

What do you actually care about and remember from a wedding when you attend as a guest? Does it make a difference to you if it’s an evening event?

I am thinking on making my own wedding cake however there is a little difference, i am thinking of making cupcakes as a wedding cake i have seen this done and i have noticed that it is a very good way to save money i mean i would be making them myself and saving time on being disappointed with the results. my bridesmaids and maid of honor are willing to help me make them and also i can make the kinds i want to have.

My fiancee and I are planning a Lord of the rings type wedding, yes we are proud geeks. Not really a theme but we sew and are making our wedding attire ourselves. I’m basing my dress off the white Eowyn dress but it will be dark blue with silver trim. He is dressing like Elrond with the inner tunic thing silver, a blue sash and a blue cloak/robe over that. For the bridesmaids I found a dress that has a slight Rennaisance flair and is silver, the grooms men I was thinking of doing gray slacks and regular shirt, vest tie just so they can still be normal during the reception but wear a silver gray cloak, found a place that makes them so we don’t have to, for the ceremony. What would make sense for our parents to wear? Particularly my father. We don’t want to sew a lot of items we have enough with our own attire but I don’t want to be all Elven and my father in a black tux walking me down the isle. Please only LOTR geeks respond! Okay normal people too…. Thanks!

Duelen…thanks so much! Sounds like you should have a fun wedding too. We really just want a hint of the LOTR theme, completely dressed just the groom and I, circlets and everything (no ears though). The wedding party will be dressed with just a touch of LOTR, that’s why I was thinking cloaks would work so they can have anything under them like tuxes or suits for the reception, plus my beau and I will be wearing different outfits for the dancing later that evening. I’ll check out all those links! I don’t think I’ll be making a replica of the white dress in style but very similar, I’ll email you when we start getting fabric.

Hello! I am not sure if it is a midwest tradition or not, but for my wedding, I will be having 2 personal attendants (aside from my bridesmaids). I have chosen 2 friends who will not stand during the ceremony, but will still play a role in my wedding party, as they will help out with things specifically for the bride (making sure I have what i need, i.e. lipgloss, powder, hair etc). My question is this: Is there specific attire I should ask my personal attendants to wear? Should it match my bridesmaids? Should I even tell them what to wear at all? What is the ettiquette for this? Also, as I am giving gifts to my maids (their jewlery and shoes) should I do the same gifts for my personal attendants or just encourage them to wear whatever they want? Help!! Any input or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks!
By the way.. I am not asking for your opinion on having attendants or not. I really don’t care what you think regarding their roles. I am just curious about others’ suggestions about attire for a situation such as this. Thanks!

I have decided on a beach wedding in the Hawaii for my upcoming wedding. However for all my life I have had a picture of what I want for my wedding. Even though the wedding is technically less formal, I want each person in the wedding party formally dressed. I plan to wear white stockings with three inch open toed sandals.

I know this may be uncomfortable but I want each of the bridesmaids to wear matching wine colored open toed heels with nude pantyhose.

Several of the girls have complained, but the dresses are knee length and I want the pictures and rest of the evening to be perfect. Am I asking too much?
