I was asked several weeks ago to be a bridesmaid in a friend’s simple beach wedding this summer. After accepting the invitation everything changed including location, date, theme, and attire SEVERAL times. With each change I’ve been stressed and helped her plan another wedding from sctratch. I was chastised through text messages for not purchasing my dress yet (the wedding is still 2 months away) by her fiance. She has changed the bridesmaid dress choice at least 4 times in the 6 weeks of planning. When I went to try on the most recent (and supposedly final) dress choice and realized that it was to be a "trashy" themed wedding I was appalled. The dress came only about 2 inches past my butt and was black and strapless with a leather corsette. I wouldn’t leave my bedroom in that. Am I wrong to refuse to dawn this prositute attire in favor of self respect and respect for my husband?
Thank you for all the supportive answers. I did tell her that I was not comfortable in it and she then showed me a series of 4 other dresses to choose from that were equally unsavory. She was very upset with me and I have been questioning my decision to speak up. I am glad to see that I am not the only one who thinks that being a self-respecting woman is more important than being a good loyal (doormat) bridesmaid.

My fiance and I are having a hawaiian themed wedding. We would like our guests to come in nice hawaiian attire, but we don’t want jeans and t-shirts. I am afraid if I put "casual" on the invitation, that’s what we’ll end up with. How can I tell my guests that although it’s not black-tie, it’s not jeans and t-shirts either. (Hawaiian shirts and dresses or sarongs would be acceptable.)

I’m in a wedding soon and we’re allowed to choose our own dresses. The only guideline is the color; black. The fabric should be cotton or at least look like it. What I’m saying is no shiny fabrics. More matte. Anyway, I’ve looked all over and I found some I kind of like but none I want. I’m 15, so something sweet and casual (the weddings on the beach) but I also want something unique and fun! What is appropriate attire for a winter wedding reception for a lady that doesn’t wear dresses?
The couple is getting married at city hall that morning and is having the reception that night. The both of them are friends and they know I don’t wear dresses so they know I won’t be wearing one.
Of course I know No Jeans and No white.
What is appropriate considering I don’t wear dresses and it’s winter? Any advice would help.

I’m getting married in September but we can’t in any way afford even the smallest of weddings, so I’d like your opinion on my idea. Invite a very select few people (10 at the most) and go down to the beach where my fiance purposed to me and have the ceremony, me and my girls in white dresses, him and the groomsmen (his three sons) in kaki or black pants and white button up shirt, barefoot - very low key. No need for chairs / decor / or finding a place, just us and the ocean. Then afterwards have a few drinks, a nice dinner somewhere and have fun. All I would plan on needing would be flowers for myself and my girls, someone to marry us, someone to take pictures and a dress (not a wedding dress though - just something simple). Takes all the hassel and worry away but still romantic. What do you think ? Any suggestions or ideas ?
any suggestions on small details that are inexpensive (i.e. wedding party gifts, favors ect.) that would work with this idea ?

I’m going to a wedding, and the wedding is going to be in the back of the peoples home. I have never been to a wedding, but I’ve seen pictures of weddings that take place in a Church, and it is fancy clothing, but this is in a backyard. Even the mother of the groom, who we know very well, told us we don’t have to be really dressy.

is it okay for me to wear dress pants to the ceremony and then change into a formal dress at the reception?
thanks for the answers so far! to add to this question, it is a formal event and apparently a few girls are bringing 2 different outfits (both of which are dresses) for the event. I hope wearing a blazer and dress pants for the ceremony is appropriate.

I have no idea what to give out. I want it to be cheap preferably since the wedding is well kinda expensive but super simple! its casual. Were on a big yacht in lake tahoe, but guys are not wearing tuxes, and girls are wearing knee high dresses as am I, the bride! and our theme is cherry blossoms. So give me suggestions of cheap nice wedding favors! I want it to be acceptable for men, women, young and old, as we have a wide range of guests. 64 people total! Any ideas??

I have decided on a beach wedding in the Hawaii for my upcoming wedding. However for all my life I have had a picture of what I want for my wedding. Even though the wedding is technically less formal, I want each person in the wedding party formally dressed. I plan to wear white stockings with three inch open toed sandals.

I know this may be uncomfortable but I want each of the bridesmaids to wear matching wine colored open toed heels with nude pantyhose.

Several of the girls have complained, but the dresses are knee length and I want the pictures and rest of the evening to be perfect. Am I asking too much?
