Mother In-Law Appropiate Wedding Attire!!!!!?

So we just found out recently that my soon to be mother in law was planning on wearing a WHITE dress to the wedding, which is sheer/see through. She generally craves atention so I was thinking she was saying it just to get a reaction. However, she called my fiance this weekend to see if I had found her an appropite dress. Therefore, it had now fallen upon me to find something APPROPIATE for her to wear. Can anyone help me find sites with mother-in-law attire, or rules of mother in law ettiquette, like not wearing white, or see through, or etc. I know it’s a SUPER silly thing to be worried about clothing, but my fiance just doesn’t want to feel embarrassed about what she is wearing in the pictures and in front of the family, etc! Thank you very much!
I do know age wise she is a grown woman, however maturity wise is a different story! Thank you for all the help so far.

We were thinking of alternating wine bottle stoppers & candy boxes at each reception table. There are 10 people per table (so 5 of each favor). My fiance & I love wine, so we chose the bottle stoppers, however we want to offer something different for those who do not drink wine. The alternating favors would ultimately save us some money too. Would this violate any sort of etiquette rules? Would it be better to stick to just one favor?

USMC Wedding on the Beach?

My fiance and I are at a disagreement about the destination of the wedding. We were going to do it on the beach of Cape Cod but I’m thinking that the Dress Blues with the Sword detail would be too formal for an informal location, but he seems to think it’ll look nice. I just can’t get a picture for it, so if anyone has any pictures or examples of a USMC Beach wedding in Full Dress Uniforms, please let me know. Or if you know of anyone that did it, then let me know how it looked. Thank you very much.

My fiance’s divorced Dad is helping us pay for our wedding. He will be paying half and we will be paying half. How do we word this on our invitations?

I was asked several weeks ago to be a bridesmaid in a friend’s simple beach wedding this summer. After accepting the invitation everything changed including location, date, theme, and attire SEVERAL times. With each change I’ve been stressed and helped her plan another wedding from sctratch. I was chastised through text messages for not purchasing my dress yet (the wedding is still 2 months away) by her fiance. She has changed the bridesmaid dress choice at least 4 times in the 6 weeks of planning. When I went to try on the most recent (and supposedly final) dress choice and realized that it was to be a "trashy" themed wedding I was appalled. The dress came only about 2 inches past my butt and was black and strapless with a leather corsette. I wouldn’t leave my bedroom in that. Am I wrong to refuse to dawn this prositute attire in favor of self respect and respect for my husband?

I am getting married in February, 2009 and I am in search of a local store that rents kilts for such an event. My fiance is scottish. So he and all of his groomsmen will be wearing them. We need 9 of them, including a child size. We will be renting the black watch kilt pattern….
If any of you know of a local place, near Huntington Beach CA, or anywhere in southern California, please let me know.

Thank You!!

Thank you for all the supportive answers. I did tell her that I was not comfortable in it and she then showed me a series of 4 other dresses to choose from that were equally unsavory. She was very upset with me and I have been questioning my decision to speak up. I am glad to see that I am not the only one who thinks that being a self-respecting woman is more important than being a good loyal (doormat) bridesmaid.

Thanks :-)

What is appropriate second wedding attire?

I’m planning on getting married next year (August). We’d like to keep it simple as it is the second wedding for both of us, yet we’re having guests (as many as 40). We’d also like to have it at my fiance’s family’s summer place. We both have kids from our previous marriages and we’re in our late 30’s/early 40’s.

What is appropriate attire for us and where can I find a second wedding dress that doesn’t make me look like I’m a first-time bride all over again (please don’t say Chadwicks - I love their stuff but IMO its not suited to what I’m looking for)? My wedding dress the first time around was a beautiful 00 dollar formal gown - I got married in a Catholic church with all the trimmings ;). I know that another formal gown isn’t appropriate for a second wedding that is not in a church or some other formal setting - the summer home isn’t the Kennedy Compound or anything, just a beautiful house on a small lake - I also don’t want to wear a simple sundress. Also important is his attire. I’d like him to be casual, but not too casual either.

I never thought I’d be doing this again and it’s been a while since I’ve done any wedding shopping. My brother got re-married last year and when I stepped into David’s Bridal I swore I’d never set foot in one of those places again - it was prom season and pure MAYHEM!!! In my 20’s it was exciting, in my late 30’s? Not so much!

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated - thanks!

Affordable beach weddings in California?

I am considering getting married in California and if I am going to do this I want to get married on the Beach. I think I am just going to get married on a beach with a permit which is fine what my main problem is finding an affordable reception hall. My fiance and I both want to have pizza at the wedding so we dont want anywhere that requires us to use their catering. Also we want to have a dance and we are looking at about 50-60 people total. I am interested in something unique and beautiful and private. Maybe a more off the beaten path wedding reception someone who owns it privately? Any input would be great XD

And I want to have some things to keep them busy.

My fiance and I are getting married on the beach and I’d like to get some beach-craft ideas (easy things that the young ones can do without much assistance)…

We’re going to have a table set up for the kids to do the stuff on, (a specific table for kids-crafts)

We’ll put out some crayons and coloring pages for the kids of course..

One thing I thought of was to buy a bunch of white visors (hats).. , glue, and those little sea-shells (they sell them in craft stores, they’re sometimes died different colors)… and let the kids decorate their hats with sea shells…

As party favors for the kids we’re going to give out those funky sunglasses. The bright colored ones that are shaped like hearts or stars,..etc..
Also, bubbles!
And for the little girls, princess wands.
(I love fairy tales and princesses)

We’re also going to have plain white bags that the kids can decorate to keep their stuff in.
(more details coming)
White bags, like paper gift bags.

They sell these things (the visors, bags, glue, even the mini-sea shells) in a magazine that gets sent to my house….
they sell them in bulk and the prices are really cheap.

1 dozen visors for 5 dollars
and 1 unit (100 count) of the white paper gift bags for 10 dollars

Any other good craft ideas?
The youngest child will be about 2 years old..obviously needing close supervision for everything.

Notices will be posted reminding parents that they are responsible for their children, and asking them to please keep a close eye on them.

Many people will probably choose not to bring their kids (as maybe they’d like to relax that night…plus 7pm - 11pm is kind of late for kids)

Magnets, Magnets, Magnets…..?

Hello Everyone,

Well, Yesterday I posted a question about my stepsister, who gave out magnets of her husband and herself holding up "Thank You" signs at the wedding instead of sending thank you cards afterwards.

The majority of the feedback was the Thank You magnet was a cool idea, but should not be in lieu of a thank you card. Perhaps a cool favor, but not a replacement. I totally agree.

So, to go with my beach wedding, I think I’m going to try to take my fiance to the beach, get "Save the Date" signs and "Thank You" signs and have the two of us sit in beach chairs, attach the signs to the back of the beach chairs, and have pictures taken with us on the beach, looking out over the waves. I’ll do magnets with Save the Date and later send out the Thank You magnets with the thank you cards, after the wedding.

What do you think? If you attended a wedding where someone did a similar thing, what would your impression be?

Im in the beginning stages of planning a destination wedding. My fiance and I have narrowed it down to the Sandals resorts but not sure which one. We’re currently considering the Royal Bahamian, Grand St. Lucia or Antigua.

An ideal resort would be relaxing, many dining options, and offers some exciting activities inside and outside the resort. Thanks ahead of time for your feed back!

Wedding band?

I’m getting married next spring. My fiance and I are in the process of planning our wedding and ironing out the details.
I really dig this wedding band for myself, but I guess it’s a man’s one..
I like the black onyx and diamond alternating, plus it’s cheaper than all diamonds across the front of the band (which is kind of what he wants to get me since our engagement ring is quite simple). We’re planning a modest wedding and are both just finishing college - so we’re in debt.

anyway, I dig this black and white kind of thing. Is it too mannish? (I didn’t even know it was a mens’ ring at first..)
Do you know of a womens’ version of it?
Thanks!
oops, here’s the band:

Thanks! I saw it on the back of a birdal magazine, and didn’t realize it was a "man’s" ring until I looked it up online. It’s a benchmark diamond and onyx.
My fiance digs it, too. I was just curious - from an objective point of view..

It is a slim ring - which should go well with our engagement ring.
Thanks for your input!
