What are the odds he’d leave the lens-cap on, then cut n’ splice file footage of weddings from Youtube?

Ideas for an all white party.?

You know those parties (or weddings) where everyone wears all white well I decided to throw one for my boyfriend. I was wondering what are some good food and drink ideas for this kind of party. I have the perfect place for the party right on the beach. Also what do I say on the invitation just to where all white. If you have any other ideas it would be greatly apprieciated. Thank you very much.

Do girls really do this?

I have heard and seen movies where the girls always dream of their wedding. Like they want the ‘perfect wedding’. Do most girls do this? I never have. Well, that could be because I don’t even really want to get married. But seriously? I personally think weddings are a huge waste of money an I would rather just get married on the beach in our swimsuits with just our family there, and then go to pizza after.

So, do girls really dream of the perfect wedding when they are little, and I’m just weird?

I did my second wedding yesterday. The first was absolutely perfect, (Beach wedding) and the pictures turned out gorgeous.
The second one was a friend of my hubands that was having a quick, thrown together wedding. They didn’t have, and couldn’t afford a photographer, so he volunteered me to do it for free. I don’t mind, I’m wanting to expand to wedding photography anyways (I’ve done studio and outdoor portraiture for 5 years).
This was WAY different. The wedding was inside of an ugly building with no natural lighting. So… my new flash was important. We figured that if you turn it up a bit, it bounces of the ceiling and you have no ugly shadows. I never thought about what would happen if I turned the camera sideways. (Duh) it goes into the next room, and I have no light. Not to mention, the flash took 10 seconds to recharge. All in all, it was a disaster.
If I was charging, I would bury myself right away.

Thank GOD they had an uncle with a good camera that got some decent ceremony pictures. The posed ones were fine (except I was pretty much demoralized by then, and, it was wet out, so they were all in the ugly building).

How do you deal with those types of lighting situations? I mean, if it was portraiture, I would go all natural with a tripod and remote, no flash. But this is a WEDDING! You can’t just stop everyone to take a picture! Number 1 Problem: Flash took forever to recharge, camera took too long to meter.

Should I just plan on leaving this area alone (except for beach, and very well lit weddings) until I buy some studio lighting? Even then, is it kosher to set up studio lighting that will be used during the ceremony?
Or should I just buy a faster camera and external flash?

Also… Do you ASK the bride and groom to hold certain poses, like the kiss, etc… so you can make sure and get several pics of it?
Is that polite?

Any tips would be great.
Now I know why wedding photographers charge so much :-P I have SO much more respect for you guys now.

I’m not ready to give up and stick to portraiture, I really want to stick this out and do the occasional thrown together wedding for free or REALLY until I’ve got it down pat. But yeah, any tips would be great. How could I have better handled that with my equipment?(Olympus E-300 DSLR, Promaster 5750DX flash) Or, should I just avoid that type of situation until I get new equipment? Thanks!

I don’t want to shoot you :-)
Lol.. but what makes you a professional? Experience? That’s what I’m trying to get here. I don’t think that I SHOULD be charging until I am very experienced with wedding photography. Not to mention, I didn’t have a wedding photographer. We couldn’t afford it. I don’t mind helping people out just so I can gain my experience.

I just hate it when the photographers on this board get so condescending. *Sigh.
Yes, I’m a nube, but 5 years in photography is a decent background.

I think that I just might end up apprenticing on wedding photography until I feel more comfortable with it, and I’ll do my own portraiture.

But yeah, thanks for the advice :-)
Yeah, I think you’re right on the equipment thing.
I need a NIkon, not 0 ebay Olympus with two lenses and a macro set.

It might work for portraits and Macros… But yeah, weddings are a whole new ballgame. I need something FASTER.

We plan on marrying in 1 yr. No set date yet. He wants a non-traditional wedding. His 2 best friends got married at the beach and his sis got married in the mts. He is dead set that 1 of these ways is the way to go for us. I will admit that these weddings were beautiful & different, but it’s just not for me.

I, on the other hand, am VERY traditional in almost every aspect of life. I want a nice church wedding with the beautiful gown and the string quartet. With a wild and crazy reception where ALL mine & his friends and family can attend.

I feel if we go off somewhere I will not have all the people I want to be there in attendance. We cannot seem to come to a compromise. Don’t get me wrong. I want him to be involved, but I never thought it was going to be this difficult. In the entire 3 yrs we have been dating I never knew he was so dead set on a beach type of wedding. He never protested when I described my dream wedding. How can we compromise?? Anybody been in a similar sit?
Money is NOT an issue.
We are not fighting over it and if he is dead-set that either we get married on a beach or we don’t get married, then I will pick the beach, of course.
I’m not looking for relationship advice. I’m looking for wedding planning advice. Just wondered if anyone had any input if they had been in the same situation.
We live in Middle Tennessee, close to Nashville. Beautiful mountains and lakes, but no beach.

wedding on lake michigan?

I am thinking about getting married on the beach of Lake Michigan. Either in Chicago, IL; Michigan City, IN; Holland, MI; or Grand Haven, MI… Does anyone know any good reception sites that would be close? I want a sunset wedding and an evening reception in May… but there isn’t a date set yet, I just want lilacs so it would have to be around Mother’s day for the flowers to be in bloom. I was thinking it would be really cold still on the beach and windy in May. Has anyone had experience with weddings on Lake Michigan in any of these areas? I would like to know what kind of rules there are for the ceremony. The reception would be at a different location near the beach, but inside because it will definitely be too cold to be outside at night in May. Thanks!
ok im not getting a wedding planner that is just a big waste of money! i am just looking for personal experience

My wedding is going to be in May of 2008 and I am trying to figure out a place for our ceremony and reception. I would much prefer renting out a victorian house, beach house, etc. for the occasion, but was not sure what is available out there. Are there any known homes – specifically in Florida – or search engines for rental houses for weddings?

Please help! I want to decide soon so that I can determine my budget!!

Thanks!

My fiance and I both cannot decide on where to have the ceremony. The only reason we even wanted to get married in Hawaii is because we both wanted a beach wedding but Palm Grove looks amazing. I am wearing a white princess gown, similar to the dress Kate Hudson wore in bridewars, purple ribbon instead but it’s not as big and it has lace over it. I was planning on wearing barefoot sandals with it too. He is wearing a black suit, a white waistcoat and a purple tie. I think with my dress the grass would be a better idea but we’d be having an aisle runner if we choose the beach.
But anyway, we can’t decide. Please help.

Which do you prefer? Palm grove is the first picture and Waiakauhi Beach is the fourth.

I’ve been a wedding/event planner and florist for over 20 years. I really need updating my computer knowledge and ability. I’m awful doing even minor computer programs. I would love to barter my services as a Event Planner for Computer Training. I’ve worked on all types of weddings from the beach to the country club (home buffets to Platinum). I would love to chat with anyone interested in this idea. If you are you need to live in Massachusetts. I really need someone who is very knowledgeable especially in XP, Word, Excel.
Love to chat.

We are going to key west to have out wedding. Usually traditonal weddings, one person takes home the centerpiece. Obviously with everyone flying in I doubt they would want the floral centerpiece. The wedding will be held outdoors, so it will be hot! I wanted some suggestions on different beach themed centerpieces, one idea I was thinking about was having a bowl with water and seashells and having floating candles and flowers, anyone have any other suggestions. Something simple but unique!
i love everyones suggestions so far, the rock candy is a great idea!!!

My parents live in Delray Beach but I am from New Jersey. I have to have the wedding down in Florida because my mom is not well and is not feasible for her to travel. My budget is only ,000 and that includes ceremony, reception, and photography. We don’t want a dj or anything else too extravagant. In fact, I would love to have it at a restaurant but I really don’t know the area at all. Any suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Oh and fyi… I’m really against beach or park weddings. I know this will cut down on costs but I am a very private person and I think I will get freaked out if there are "wedding crashers" if I get married in a public place.
