I am getting married in November, and I need some ideas for inexpensive but tasteful wedding favors. We just got engaged and I have never had to help plan a wedding before, so any help would be greatly appreciated!!

My husband and I purchased candy bars from BJ’s Wholesale club and made our own candy wrapper’s on our computer. We unwrapped the candy bar, leaving the aluminum underneath and used a glue stick to keep our labels on.
I just went to a wedding where the favor was a small paper bag with candy and a few trivial pursuit cards. Everyone loves candy and the cards were such a great ice-breaker for a table full of people who did not know one another.
We all gave the favors two thumbs up!
partys, lots of people , lots of food, tasteful…. games..try games.. use your imagination..ask lots of questions
I got married this past January, and I put hershey’s kisses in a small piece of tulle and wrapped it up for favors. I attached a card to each that I made on the computer that had a saying that went along with my wedding theme. All together I think I spent aorund $30, and I got compliments on them. You could also ask people on the bulletin boards at http://www.theknot.com. There are a lot of great ideas on there, and people have pictures in their bios.
Something useful in some way is always the best. No one wants a little silver heart that they’ll feel guilty throwing away. Besides, you wouldn’t want people to toss things that you spent a lot of time or money on.
I think the best ones are edible.
I like the Italian wedding idea where all the aunts or women in the family bake tons of cookies. Everyone can fill a nice bag with the ones they want on the way out.
Someone I know who got married in the fall gave everyone a caramel apple. They were in those plastic containers but she wrapped them in hot pink tissue paper and lined them up on a table by the door. That was nice.
You may hear this a lot too but maybe you should skip the favors. We are! I don’t like a lot of clutter on the table and people really don’t care one way or the other.
Want an honest opinion from someone who has been there? (I also got married in November!) Favors are the biggest waste of money you will ever spend on your wedding day. Honestly. Half of them weren’t touched, and the ones that were touched were left at the end of the night. Only 10% of the favors I made actually went home with the guests. I’d save the money all together if I were you. I wish I had!
There is a new trend out, having a Candy Buffet Table. You get candy and chocolates in the colors of your wedding (M&M’s, Hershey Kisses.. etc etc.) You can get nice jars, very cheap at a craft store to put the candy in. All you’ll need is little goodie bags for your guests to pick which candy they want.
I went to one wedding that had this, and it was a hit!
Google – Candy Buffet Tables
You should be able to find pictures and information. Happy Planning!
Is there a theme for the wedding ? If so go with something that ties in with the theme.. I had a Las Vegas wedding so my theme was Las Vegas I used chocolate gold foil coins as my favor wrapped in toile…
Some "generic" favors are "Two hershey kisses from the MR/MRS" in toile circles wrapped with ribbon..
Or votive candles/holders with your wedding date on them. You can get clear sticker like the one’s you would use as address labels made at Staples just get clear ones and personalize w/ the wedding date/location etc…The votive’s and holders any craft supply should have those.. Michael’s has money saving coupons in the sunday circular…
Hope that helps.. good luck
I love that first idea!!!
I’d make my own wedding cake! It’s WAYYYY cheaper to do it on your own.
I do cakes already, but I know of girls who did their own sooooo much cheaper than what cake designer’s will charge.
$20 for the cake mix & ingredients (3 cakes; 6X4, 9X4 and 12X4" & baked on your own of course; with your own pans or borrowed ones)
$10 for the icing to cover all 3
$30 for assorted flowers of your choice (think big blossoms in bold colors)
$20 used tier/cake stand
——–
$80 for a beautiful cake that could easily feed 100 – 120 people
God bless on the marriage!
At some party stores and Hallmark stores they sell weddig favors. Some that dont cost much are these cute little silver bells. People can ring them instead of throwing rice, or as well as throwing rice. There are also the bubbles that are wrapped in mesh. I would go to the party stores and see what else you can find. I know there are a lot that you can get from the internet..
here are a couple links…

Good luck.
I think Candles are a great gift.
We purchased colored M&M’s that went with the colors of our wedding. Then I went to Michael’s and bought tulle circles, ribbon, and bells. My friends and I made them into little bundles.
i am getting some draw string organza bags in bright colors to match my colors and filling them with a few foil wrapped chocolate hearts.
both are super cheap to pick up
you might be able to get fall shapes around halloween time – (50% off day after)
leaves pumpkins… to use instead of hearts
How much do you want to spend.
I just found these last night http://www.favorwarehouse.com/favors/d4157.html
I am thinking of using the frames as place card holders, then they can take the frame home and use them for whatever they want.
Food is always a good option…
And most people really won’t want a favor that has been personalized with your name and wedding date. I recently learned that myself.
just print up little scrolls thats say;
on this day of happy beginnings……..
today we start our lives together and pledge our love to one another.
In front of you, our family and friends,
we said "I Do" until life’s end.
Our hearts are bound and tied with love,
more pure than the stars above.
For on this day we thank you too,
for being here to see us through
then put your names and date!
It will only cost ya for the paper!
make your own candy with peanut butter and powered sugars,1/2 teaspoon peanut butter rolled around in chocolate and vanilla sugars.no bakes.
DIY baby! haha. Keep in mind that if you can’t eat or drink it guests will probably leave it behind or trash it so use the money somewhere usefull either as a charitable donation or to upgrade something they will enjoy like the music or the bar.
Our wedding favors are caramel apples. We are getting them from a candy/shop bakery. 1.75 each and they already come in their cellophane bags with a ribbon. All I need to do is add the name tags. Its worth it since they are doing tripple duty as favors, place cards, and table decor. Not unique but nice and tasty so who cares.
Another idea is to come up with a signature cookie for you two and let the guests take home some milk and cookies. Tell them sweet dreams and include a laminated card with the recipie on it. You can get really creative and the screwups will be the yummiest ever. I made some last week that were peanut butter, white chocolate chip, and pecan. HTB flipped over them.
Other fall options that are cheap:
Homeade jellies/preserves (or stick a custom label on some from the gorcery store and just don’t tell)
Baggies of "happy trails" mix
chocolate leaves
there’s a place here that sells cranberry wine we are going to have at our wedding as the signature drink. small bottles of that would make a great favor for November.
Get the little baby tera cotta pots and plant a special herb in them with a tag about why…for instance rosemary for remembrance.
Don’t give anything you wouldn’t like to receive. Like, a cheap votive w/ a sticker? Always goes in the trash. Cheap things are usually trashy and that’s where they ultimately end up. My friend gave out tic-tacs and had a little ‘mint to be’ label on them. If you like cheesey stuff like that. Or, my other friend got married and gave out CD’s with ‘their songs’ on them. I’d like to get married in the fall and have a great love of pumpkins. So, I’m going to give out baby pumpkins people can use to decorate with and then trash when the time comes; so it’s not useless clutter.
my husband and i made a donation to a charity that means a lot to us, and we made the donation within our means. we then printed up an announcement about the donation and placed it in a scroll at everyone’s place setting. it meant something to us, and we didn’t go over budget. i also loved the donation idea because most people just throw out their favors from attending a wedding, this way the favor really meant something. you’ll find something that’s right for the both of you! good luck and congrats!
We did votive candles. On the outside glass it read"Thanks for sharing our special day" under that it had our names and our wedding date. We got them at http://www.orientaltrading.com
Good luck and congratulations. They have a lot of inexpensive wedding things.
If it is toward the end of November, a Christmas ornament would be cute and different. You could get some of the inexpensive ball ornaments and decorate them with tulle and ribbon.
There’s always the spoonful of kisses. They will be available in fall colors by then. Just put two or three in a spoon with a tag that reads: Lots of hugs and a spoonful of kisses from Jane & John, the new Mr. & Mrs. The Smiths and your date
Best of Luck
try favorfavor.com and favorideas.com. Great sites and you can get favors for under a $1.00 in some cases. A candle is always tasteful and a small pewter picture frame is always tasteful. My daughter bought small pewter frames for her wedding and placed an engagement photo of her and her husband inside the frame. Tied the box with a gorgeous white ribbon with little tiny white flowers and it was a great success.
The most inexpensive but tasteful and doesn’t look "cheap" favor is candy. You can buy jelly belly or mints and put them in a nice little favor box (or small favor bag).
Check out the heart-shaped mints at the web site below.
