If you want to do something more elegant try something along these lines
Elegant Brunch
A multi-course brunch feels both decadent and civilized — fork-and-knife dishes with the perfect mix of sweet and savory to keep your spirits up through midday. Mimosas (made with freshly squeezed orange juice) or bellinis (if peaches are in season) would be a classic pairing here.
Pear Soup
Cheese Strata with Ham and Tomatoes
Mini-Orange Crumble Top Muffins with Orange Butter
Mixed Greens Salad with Brown Butter Vinaigrette
Raspberry Almond Tart
Chocolate Truffles
but my personal choice for someone who is not sure …try the dessert party route making or buying items like…
For a mid-afternoon shower, all-dessert is a good way to go. A selection of sorbets surrounding an impressive yet simple flower and ice centerpiece keeps it light and airy; flourless cake takes care of the chocolate urge. Dessert wines or Port are a great match, or try a punch as a counterpoint.
Flower and Ice Centerpiece
Key Lime Sorbet
Mini Flourless Chocolate Cakes
Lotta Chocolate Sorbet
Lemon Coconut Roulade
Fresh Strawberry Sorbet
Chocolate Covered Strawberries
or skip it all and go with one of these on the kraft site..

Are you inviting men?
Burgers, Hot dogs, beer, chili.
Women only.
Mini quiches, finger sandwiches, cheese and crackers.
Cucumber sandwiches, egg salad sandwiches, pickle tray, cheese and meat tray, veggies and dip.
i threw one for my sister about a month ago. we served keish and fruit salad and chips and salsa and other party snacks. hope its fun
Usually lite foods such as individual quiches and finger sandwiches made with coissants, fresh fruit salads, veggie plates – epescially in summer when there are many fresh choices available!
Petit fours for dessert are a nice treat and a change from same old cake stuff.
It all depends on what time you have it. If it’s an afternoon shower I would reccomend light lunch foods. Pasta salad, or a chicken fetichini, with ceasar salad and bread. Or you can make sandwhiches.. like lobster or shrimp and crab… something a little bit more gormet then pb&J. Look on the foodnetwork.com go to the Every Day Italian website… she has a bunch of good recepies. Or you can pick any food you would like to serv. Try Paula Dean for a more southern spread.
veggie platter
cheese and crackers
finger sandwiches or meat platter with rolls
punch
The summer months are great because you have a bounty of fresh fruits and veges to choose from. I recently gave a bridal shower and this was my menu:
Grilled chicken breasts (boneless, skinless, marinated in Italian dressing overnight)
Fresh rolls with butter
Spinach salad (with strawberries, goat cheese, candied walnuts and crumbled bacon tossed with a french dressing)
Pasta salad (with rotelle, cubed salami, feta cheese, red bell pepper, green onion, olives and Berensteins Cheese Fantastico dressing made the night before so the flavors can meld).
Citrus punch ( 1 can lemonade concentrate, 1 can frozen Margarita mix concentrate, 1 can pineapple juice concentrate, 2 liters gingerale and 2 liters flavored sparkling water along with a lemon infused ice ring)
Raspberry White Chocolate Cheesecake
It was substantial enough to satisfy some hungry ladies and yet light enough to not totally blow out your diet.
for a bridal shower you should serve some fancy looking cake, little sandwiches(like cucumbers) some dip and crackers. or some sort of chicken wrap and some punch.
