What should the mother of the groom wear to a beach wedding in August?
My stepson is planning a beach wedding in Florida next August. I am not very tolerant of the heat, so I would rather not wear a formal gown, but at the same time, I don’t want to be too informal for a wedding. My future step daugther in law will be wearing a traditional wedding dress and my step son wants to wear a tux (yes, a tux, in August, in Florida, on the beach!).
I know a lot of designers are catering to the informal destination wedding for bridal gowns. Does anyone know of any designers who are catering to these types of weddings for the mother of the bride/groom?
TB–I tried. They were in Florida a couple weeks ago scouting out resorts to have the wedding and the wedding coordinators tried to tell them too. They will hear nothing of it. They basically want to have a regular church wedding, but on a beach in Florida. And it’s their wedding…if he wants to spend it passed out from heat exhaustion, who am I to judge?

Something soft, lightweight, light in color, with a small sleeve or sleeveless (not strapless). The length would depend on the time of day. The later the wedding the longer the dress. A daytime wedding, knee length is fine. Evening or nighttime wedding, go long.

Tell your son & his fiance that formal gown & tuxedo are ludicrous on the beach in the daytime. Then go to TJ Maxx & get a straw hat.
yes. look at the websites of ellen tracy, lafayette 148, neiman marcus, saks 5th avenue, dillards, and bergdorfs.
these sites will show you floaty, soft, lightweight dresses that would be perfect on a beach.
i have had enormous luck with ellen tracy over the years.
a single strap long gown made of thin material with side slits that go up to the highest you are comfortable with, open toe shoes or sandals and flowers in your hair, preferably in a wispy wide brimmed hat pinned firmly into your real hair.
the air will flow through and you would not look too hot nor out of your element in the beach.
Make Your child plan another venue. Florida can have unexpected weather. Last SUnday, and this is AUgust- it rained on the beach. pouring rain. Think of the ladies who came to the wedding in high heels now sinking in the wet sand. a sight to behold.
You would just need to find an outfit of a style you like, but in a fabric which will breathe – I think that will be more important. Maybe something with a jacket that has a sleeveless dress under.
